I'm a guy and have a question about something that's happened a few times now. I'll be chatting to a woman, a handful of back and forth messages, and they suddenly ask to talk to me on kik, much sooner than I'd assume most women would be comfortable with. Am I just being paranoid? Or is this a thing that scammers actually do -- try to get you off POF and onto kik? I just don't see how a scammer would benefit talking to me on kik, but it feels odd if it's real.
Kik is the classic sexploitation platform.
They'll start off with normal enough convo then mention they're horny, send you one of 5 pics they have and then try blackmailing you, either on receipt of a picture you send, or claim they're actually 14 and they'll go to the police unless you pay. Never go off POF.
And if you do, don't use a 3rd Party app unless it's for video chat. So, use kik if you're going to video chat so you can see and talk to one another. Zoom or FaceTime is good too.
Never send nude pics until after you've met in person and by then, do it via text. Also, a scammer might say, "hey text me at this ". Their profile says they live near you, but area code is across the country.
Ask them if they lived in the other area before moving to yours. Talk about your area.
They say they like bowling. What's your favorite bowling alley in the area? It's possible you don't even have one. That should be fun.
